Court jails man six months for stealing phone

A 20-year-old man, Lucky Ogbebor, was Thursday sentenced to six months imprisonment by an Egor Chief Magistrates’ Court, for stealing one Nokia X2 phone.

The accused who pleaded not guilty during trial, was sentenced without an option of fine.

According to the police prosecutor, Sergeant Sunday Lucky, the accused committed the offence on 14 February at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).‎

He further informed the court that the phone is valued at N15,000 and property of Imonah Samuel.

Sergeant Lucky said the offence is punishable under section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap. 48 Vol. ll, law of the defunct Bendel State of ‎Nigeria 1976 as applicable in Edo.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Esohe Ighodan, who found the convict guilty, sentenced him to six months imprisonment.‎ ‎
