The All Progressives Congress(APC) in Kebbi State has announced the suspension of a member of the state House of Assembly, Alhaji Sani Idris (Zuru constituency).
The APC Public Relations Officer in the state, Alhaji Sani Dododo, made this known to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.
Dododo said that the suspension was for alleged insubordination and disrespect to the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Samaila Yombe.
Dododo, who is also a member of the Central Working Committee of the state APC, said the suspension was sequel to a report of the Zuru local government executive council on the incident.
He said the party would not tolerate any incident bordering on disrespect to leaders and elders of the party in the state.
“The party will not condone indiscipline and disrespect to leaders and duly constituted authority”, he said.
Dododo said the suspension would enable the Central Working Committee to investigate deeply, the allegations against the state assembly member.
When contacted, the suspended member, Alhaji Sani Idris, however, said the allegations were false and unfounded.
He said he was ready “to face any genuine action and decision of the party after fair hearing”.
Idris said he had remained a loyal member of the party, especially his cordial relationship with the deputy governor; “that I regard with high esteem being someone who relates with my father well.”
He said he would comply with his suspension by the party until the conclusion of a thorough investigation over the allegations.
Idris said that his loyal activities in the state legislature had been misconstrued.
“The role I played in calling for a review of the selection of councillors may have attracted negative understanding from others after I had advocated for a spread in the selection of councillors.
“The selection of councilors in some local government areas had been lopsided and I was among those who advised that the selection of councilors should be on equal basis; instead of selecting five or more councilors from one ward, it should be spread.
“As a loyal party member, I would await the outcome of the party decision but I call for fairness as I leave judgment to God,” he said.
