The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) on Friday issued a Certificate of Return to Hon Victoria Wobo Nyeche representing Port Harcourt Constituency 1 of the Rivers State House of Assembly following a court order.

The appeal court declared Nyeche winner of the House of Assembly polls and it ordered INEC to swear her-in.

It would be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission had declared Hon Jones Ogbondah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the April 11 State Assembly election for PHALGA Constituency 1, while according to INEC, Victoria Wobo Nyeche of the All Progressive Congress (APC) finished second.

But not satisfied with the results declared by INEC, Hon Victoria Nyeche filed a petition at the Rivers State Governorship and State Assembly election petition tribunal asking the court to declare her winner of the election that took place on 11th of April in PHALGA Constituency 1.

However, the judgement of the tribunal went in favour of the PDP lawmaker, prompting Hon Nyeche to proceed to the Court of Appeal where she was declared the winner of the election.

Issuing her with the certificate of Return at the INEC Headquarters on Aba Road Port Harcourt, the new INEC boss, Mr Aniedi Abasi Ikoiwak stated that INEC as a body respects the rule of law and has complied with the order of the appeal court.
