It was a sad end for a man who allegedly tried to steal a pumping machine in a well at 3/5 Modupe Ajayi Close, Alagbado area of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, as he drowned in the process in the early hours of Thursday.
According to the landlord of the house, Babatunde Jonathan Adeboye, 67, a native of Oshogbo in Osun State, a Mobile Police officer with Mopol 22, Mr. Solomon Saint, woke him up around 12 mid night, saying he heard a loud sound of an object that fell into the well.
“When we rushed out to see what it was, we heard someone’s voice inside the well crying for help so we quickly put a call across to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Alagbado Police Station Mr. Ilori Adepoju.

“Adepoju, a Chief Superintendent of Police, immediately called in the fire service at Alausa and within a short time the fire service officials arrived. But the man died before they could rescue him,” the landlord said.
At the time P.M.NEWS correpondent visited the house labourers were seen working on the well.
Our correspondent also visited Alagbado Police Station in connection with the incident but the DPO declined to comment, saying he had already sent the situation report to the Police image maker, Mrs. Dolapo Badmos.
While confirming the story, Mrs. Badmos said the victim’s corpse has been deposited at the morgue while investigation continues.
