Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State has urged the nation’s Interior Ministry to ensure that it budgets more resources for the numerous land borders across Ogun state in the 2016 fiscal year.
He declared that the state deserves such a special attention, considering the fact that, unarguably, the state has one of the most porous land borders in the country.
Governor Amosun stated this on Thursday when the Minister of the Interior, Lt. General Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (retd.) paid him a courtesy call at his Oke-Mosan office in Abeokuta.
Amosun added that on its part, the state government is doing its utmost in developing the border communities through the provision of infrastructure, including good road network.
He said the provision of good roads alone has the potential of opening up the areas to foreign direct investments, encouraging Small and Medium Scale Enterprises, as well as enhancing the livelihood of the people.
Governor Amosun used the opportunity to request that the Ministry of the Interior looks into the state of the prison facilities in Abeokuta.
There are two prisons in Abeokuta, the Ibara prison and Oba prison.
In his remark, the Minister said the essence of his visit to Ogun State was to enlist the support of the state government in the all-important task of dealing with issues of public safety and security in Nigeria.
According to him, “without security, there cannot be development, not only for people to be able to sleep with both eyes closed, but also for foreign direct investment,” Dambazau posited.
The Minister later drove round the state, in company of the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Nigeria Prison Service, NPS, Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, and some police officers.
