Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, on Wednesday described the late Olubadan, Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade I, as an advocate of a peaceful and clean Ibadan and the entire state.
Ajimobi stated this during the lying in state of the late monarch held at the Mapo Hall in Ibadan, capital of Oyo State.
The governor, who was represented by his former Special Adviser on Political Matters, Dr Gbade Ojo, said that the late monarch was very supportive to the state government in the campaign for peace and clean environment.
“Baba was a national figure and not being celebrated because he was Olubadan. He deserves the accolades and honour given to him by the state government through the state burial organised for him,” Ajimobi added.
At the occasion, gospel singer, Evangelist Funmi Aragbaye thrilled the congregation to various praises and worship songs.
Aragbaye described the late monarch as a man of culture and peace, calling on religious and political leaders to promote traditional institutions.
In attendance were several indigenous clubs and associations, tertiary institutions, traditional rulers, trade unions and workers, palace staff and family members, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) led by Dr Lasisi Balogun, Chief Bayo Oyero, High Chief Lekan Balogun, Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Owolabi Olakunlehin and Chief Gboyega Arulogun.
