The police on Tuesday arraigned a 28-year-old cart pusher, Obinna Eze, who allegedly burgled a shop and stole 83 pairs of ladies shoes worth N300,000.

Eze, who resides at Ijora, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of burglary and theft before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Philip Osijiale, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Dec. 20, 2015, at about 2:00 a.m.

According to him, the accused burgled the shop of Temitope Ogunbanjo at 19, Savannah Plaza, Gbajumo St., Ajah Park, Balogun, Lagos and stole 83 pairs of ladies’ shoes.

The prosecutor said that some pairs of the stolen shoes were found in the shop of three shoe sellers in the same market and they were arrested and interrogated.

“The three claimed that the accused, who they could identify but did not know his name, brought the shoes to their shops for sale, but they were not aware they were stolen goods.

“On Feb. 3, one of the men who bought the stolen shoes sighted the accused in the market and notified the police, which led to his arrest,” he said.

Osijaile said the offences contravened Sections 285, 309 (10) (2) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Eze pleaded guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs Memunat Folami, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody.

She adjourned the case till Feb. 17 for facts and sentence.
