The National Assembly has further compounded the cash crunch crisis of Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, by reducing drastically the federation’s budget in 2016.
While the leadership of the NFF proposed N7.3 billion for this year, the National Assembly Thursday approved the sum of N1.2 billion for the activities of the federation in Abuja.
This will further put the NFF in dire financial crisis executing its numerous activities lined up for the year 2016.
President of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick said Friday morning on a Lagos-based sports radio that the approved budget is a far cry to what the NFF expects from the Federal Government of Nigeria this year.
The NFF is having series of qualifying matches to be played by the Super Eagles for the Gabon 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The U-17 and U-17 women teams will be participating in their respective FIFA World Cups this year, while the NFF is targeting to host the African Beach Soccer Championship with a budget of N350m.
All these put together, Pinnick said NFF will find it difficult to meet up with its financial obligations in 2016 with the N1.2 approved budget by the House Committee on Sports.
