An Ebute Metta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Wednesday ordered the remand of Oluwatobi Olukoya, 19, in prison custody for allegedly macheting his friend to death.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Ajibade, ordered that the accused, facing a count charge of murder, be remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons pending the release of legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the plea of Olukoya, a resident of No. 38, Lagos Road, Epe, was, however, not taken.

The prosecutor, Insp. Gbemileke Agoi, had earlier told the court that the offence was committed on October 25 at about 10:00 a.m. at Popo Oba St., Epe, Lagos.

He alleged that the accused and the deceased, Laja Adebayo, 18, had a misunderstanding over an undisclosed matter.

“Olukoya, thereafter, picked up a machete which he used to hack the deceased to death,” he said.

Agoi noted that the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011, which prescribes death sentence for convicts.

Ajibade, however, adjourned the case till March 2 pending legal advice from the DPP.
