DPO arrests 17 suspected hoodlums at 1004 Estate

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge Bar Beach police station, Victoria Island, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, CSP Segun Ajamolaya has led his men to arrest a least 17 suspected hoodlums who
reportedly invaded the 1004 Housing Estate, Victoria Island, Lagos to attack residents and security guards in the Estate and in the ensuing commotion inflicted injuries on three people and a police Corporal, Akinyemi Olujide.

The DPO, according to investigation, swooped on the suspected hoodlums following a distress call by the residents of the estate.

Police alleged that the suspects were invited to the 1004 Housing Estate to commit the alleged crime by Samuel Ukpong.

Police identified the arrested suspects as Ntta Okonkon, 39, Balogun Olatunji, 30, Ikechukwu Madu, 29, Joseph Nasamu, 55, Shoga Samson, 36, Temitope Ayoola, 20, Victor Edegene, 40, and Agbor Gabriel, 25.

Others include Samson Olatunji, 29, Uche Ogbonna, 26, Moses Obare, 27, Buchi Oputa, 32, Williams Abodurin, 41, Kelvin Ahaomo, 27, Goddy Lazarus, 32, and Cletus Alopko, 27.

All the suspect were arraigned before an Igbosore magistrates’ court, Lagos on a four-count of felony to wit, invading 1004 Estate with weapons, assault occasioning and conduct
likely to cause breach of peace.

Police prosecutor, SGT Tubi Olajide informed the court in charge No. M/05/2016 that Samuel Ukpong invited the suspects to the estate to attack residents and security guards on duty with weapons and in the process inflicted injuries on three people, namely Oke Bran Efue, Abubakar Audu, Ehiosu Oviawe and a Police officer, Corporal Akinyemi Olajide.

Olajide noted that the offences the accused persons committed are punishable under sections 409, 166(D), 171 and 172(B) of the criminal laws of Lagos State, 2011.

All the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the alleged crime in the open court and Magistrate Mrs. O. Ajayi admitted them to bail in the sum of N50,000 each with one surety each in like
sum.

Ajayi adjourned the case till 24 February, 2016 for mention while all the defendants were taken to Ikoyi prison pending when they will fulfill their bail conditions.
