The Oyo State Police Command says it has recovered 16 exotic cars stolen by suspected armed robbers.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Leye Oyebade, made this known while parading some suspects arrested by the command’s Special Anti-robbery Squad.

“Credible intelligence had it that the suspects were planning to carry out another deadly operation in Ibadan before their arrest.

“The notorious inter-state armed robbery gang had terrorised innocent citizens in Oyo, Ogbomoso, Ibadan and many cities in Nigeria.

“Part of the suspects’ modus operandi was snatching at gun point posh cars which they disposed of by changing number plates,

sometimes colours and re registering them in a licensing office where they had their allies,” Oyebade said.

NAN reports that the commissioner gave back their car keys to two victims, Bamidele Samuel and Ganiyu Rasaq, whose vehicles were snatched.

The police boss, however, called on residents whose cars had been stolen to come out and identify their cars.

In another development, the command also arrested five suspects said to be involved in the kidnapping of one Abdullahi Dogo.

The commissioner said the kidnappers, who were arrested in a forest, used the victim’s cell phones to demand for a N2million ransom.

“The evil forest was stormed and two suspects were arrested.

“During investigation, others were arrested and it was discovered that the hoodlums also engaged in other criminal activities aside kidnapping,” Oyebade said.

Oyebade called on members of the public to continue to partner with the police by reporting any criminal activity being perpetrated in their neighbourhood.

“We appreciate the cooperation of members of the public who have stood by us by giving us useful information that helped in the arrest of suspects.

“We are resolute in our determination to provide adequate security in the state,” he said.
