The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Headquarters Compliance Team, Idi-Iroko axis, has intercepted 100 cartons of smuggled frozen poultry products concealed in a truck conveying parcels.

This was contained in a statement made available by the Public Relations Officer, Federal Operations Unit, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ikeja, Mr Uche Ejesieme on Friday in Lagos.

The statement said the team headed by an Assistant Comptroller of Customs, Shittu Ajibola, made the seizure, which was concealed in an Izuzu Mini-truck, suspected to belong to a courier company.

It said that the truck was intercepted along Ijebu Ode–Sagamu Road on January 13, 2016.

The statement said, “The team leader (Shittu Ajibola) ascribed his latest exploit to the team’s strict adherence and comprehension of the policy thrust of the Comptroller-General of Customs.”

Ajibola said that nobody would have thought that a vehicle that ought to be used to ferry parcels and other materials, could be used to smuggle.

According to him, this fuelled suspicion that it may not be the first time such illicit transaction will take place.

He said the team would use every resource at his disposal to fight smuggling in line with the mission and vision of the NCS management.

Ajibola explained that the smugglers used parcels to conceal the smuggled products which made it symbolic.
