Articulated vehicle kills 1, injures many others in Ibadan

An articulated vehicle Friday night in Ibadan crushed three commercial motorcycles, killed one person and injured six others.

NAN reports that the accident occurred at Oke Elesin area of Amuloko, on Akanran Road in Ona Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State.

According to residents in the area, the truck with registration number Lagos, XL724KTU, lost control and rammed into the commercial motorcycles at about 9:00 p.m.

An eyewitness said the driver could not control the vehicle because of the sloppy nature of the road.

“While trying to manoeuvre, the motorcyclists, who were negotiating to pass it, were crushed in the process,” the source said.

He added that the truck driver escaped before the police arrived the scene.

Confirming the report, the Divisional Traffic Officer, Akanran Police Station, who simply gave his name as Taiwo, said only one person died, contrary to claim that three persons died in the incident.

Taiwo said the injured had been taken to different hospitals.

At the time of filing this report on Saturday the three ‎motorcycles were still trapped under the articulated vehicle, while sympathisers were making efforts to remove the corpse.
