Sen. Samuel Anyanwu (PDP-Imo North) said on Tuesday that the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges received 65 petitions since the inception of the 8th Senate.

Anyanwu, who is the Chairman of the committee, said at an interactive forum with newsmen in Owerri on Tuesday that 35 of the petitions had been attended to.

He said that 11 had been approved as presented by the committee while others were under investigations.

He said the committee received a joint petition from the Nigeria Bar Association and the Nigeria Labour Congress against Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo on non-payment of workers’ salaries.

Anyanwu said that the committee received another petition from the workers of Imo State House of Assembly also bordering on non-payment of salaries by the state government.

He said the committee employed wisdom to handle amicably most of the petitions which ordinarily could snowball into disagreements in the Senate.
