The Ogun state Police Command have arrested 980 suspects for various alleged criminal offences ranging from armed robbery, cultism, rape and kidnapping in the last six months.
According to the State Police boss, Abdulmajid Ali, 116 persons were arrested for robbery, 205 for cultism, 38 others were picked up for rape and seven for kidnapping.
Also, 45 f assorted arms, 125 ammunitions, 69 vehicles and 297 sacks of marijuana loaded in a truck were recovered from the suspects.
Parading the suspects on Monday at the Command headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, the State capital, the police boss said the total value of the properties recovered were put at N6,020,000.
The CP also disclosed that seven robbery suspects were killed during gun duels with the police in different locations in the state.
The Police Commissioner reiterated that the law banning the use or sales of explosives – bangers, knockout, fireworks was still in force, and warned residents against using explosives during the yuletide.
Ali vowed that the Command would continue to make the state unsafe for criminals, especially during the yuletide.
He urged residents to be vigilant against insurgents and their accomplices in strange attires.
“There has been alert in the security circle that members of the Boko Haram terrorist sect are plotting to carry out “huge attacks” in unspecified parts of the country.
“Residents of the state must be on the look-out for teenage girls covering their bodies with veils. Such people could be used by the insurgents to convey and detonate bombs,” Ali warned.
He disclosed that scores of Hausa-Fulani teenage girls arrested recently in Mowe-Ibafo motor park by the Command while on their way to Lagos state in company with their traffickers for suspicious motives have been sent back to Kano State.
