A panel of five appeal court justices has upheld the judgement of the Akwa Ibom State Governorship Election Tribunal of 21 October nullifying results of the 11 April governorship election in 18 local government areas of the state.
The cross appeal was filed by Governor Udom Emmanuel and Chief Umana Okon Umana, candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the 11 April governorship election in the state.
An Election Tribunal had earlier called for rerun of election in 18 local governor areas but Umana who is challenging Udom challenged the verdict by heading to the Court of Appeal.
Appeal court has just dismissed interlocutory appeal of PDP challenging the nomination of Umana as the candidate of APC in the Akwa Ibom governorship contest.
The court held that Umana was validly nominated.
