Woman, 62, in police net for posing as reproductive doctor

A 62-year old woman, Celina Etomi, who allegedly posed as a medical doctor, has been arrested and detained in Benin, Edo State.

Etomi was alleged to have defrauded four barren women the sum of N7, 831, 000 million, with a promise to make them get pregnant with twin children and more, through InVitro Fertilization (IVF).

The suspect who was nabbed at her hideout in Saint Saviour Street in Benin, allegedly claimed to work for a British-owned hospital based in Ondo State.

The bubble burst on her after she collected N900, 000 from a family to treat their blind daughter who was also suffering from malignant brain tumor.

Her treatment allegedly include administering drugs and injections on her victims which gave them protruding stomach as if they were pregnant.

But the victims reported the incident after they discovered that they were not responding to treatment and medical reports proved otherwise.

Edo Police Spokesman, DSP Stephen Onwochei, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspect would soon be charged to court after investigation has been completed.
