Fake healers arrested for duping barren woman

Two suspects, Ngozi Okorie and Seun Olakanmi have been arrested and charged before Ejigbo Magistrates’ court for allegedly placing a woman on oath and defrauding her under the false pretence of making her to conceive.

The suspects allegedly duped Rabiu Kadijat in Lagos State, western Nigeria.

They allegedly collected over N200,000 from her under false pretence of facilitating traditional cure for the undisclosed illness that had prevented her from getting pregnant.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the victim who had been married for some years was unable to conceive after receiving several medical treatments.

She was lured to try the traditional remedy by the suspects who defrauded her.

Apart from collecting money, they also collected her phone, Necklace and ATM card as part of the conditions for her healing.

They were arrested by the police at Ikotun Division where the incident happened after the promises they made failed.

P.M.NEWS gathered that after they collected the items and money, they gave her a substance to drink and told her when she would conceive.

They also placed her on oath and warned her not to reveal what transpired between her and them to anyone.

She kept the secret to her self and was drinking the substance with the hope that she would conceive.

However, her situation became worse as the concoction given to her worsened her health.

When she asked for the refund of her money, they refused and asked her to continue to take the substance and bring more money.

The matter was reported to the police and they were arrested and charged to court.

The police charged them with obtaining under the false pretence and stealing under the Criminal Code.

They pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr A. A. Fashola granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum who must produce three years tax clearance.

They were remanded in prison custody pending when they will perfect their bail.

The matter was adjourned till 11 November, 2015.
