The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) says it is organising a High Level Regional Roundtable Workshop on Non- interest Capital Market.

SEC’s management, in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, said that workshop was in line with its strategic 10-year master plan on Non-Interest Capital Market.

The statement said that the one-day workshop, scheduled for Oct. 19 in Kano, has the theme: “Financing development through Islamic Capital Market – a viable alternative.”

It said that the workshop was aimed at expanding the depth of the Nigerian Capital Market and promoting financial inclusiveness through the Capital Market.

According to the statement, the objective of the workshop is to encourage states to explore the alternative model for financing infrastructure through Islamic Capital Market Products such as `Sukuk’.

It added that guests expected at the workshop would include Kano and Jigawa states commissioners of finance, states investment companies, chambers of commerce and industries.

The commission, had in September, announced that it was planning to grow non-interest capital market products to be 25 per cent of the overall market capitalization.
