Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, on Tuesday recounted an encounter he once had with the driver of a commercial bus, popularly called danfo, in the Agege area of the state.

Obasa, who presided over the screening of nominees for the cabinet of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, told his colleagues and the crowd at the gallery that he was once slapped by a danfo driver, but could not retaliate.

According to Obasa who was talking about discipline as a lawmaker, the driver, at the Idi-Aba area of Agege, his constituency, had scratched his car and he came down to address the bus driver.

But in the ensuing argument, “the danfo driver slapped me, but I could not retaliate.

“My spirit was moving me to slap him back, but I couldn’t because I am a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly.”

The Speaker’s revelation came after a nominee for the state cabinet and former Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Lola Akande, praised the House for training her to be able to face challenges outside lawmaking.

On the whole, 28 of the nominees were present for screening after passing through screening by a 15-man ad-hoc committee of the House last week.

At the time of this report, some of the nominees including Steve Ayorinde, Folarin Kokah, Suarau Isiaka Toyin, Folami Muslim, Agboola Dabiri, Mudirat Aramide and Adebimpe Akinsola, a former member of the House from Ikorodu, had been screened.
