The Bayelsa State Government has joined the Ijaw National Congress, INC, declare seven days of mourning in honour of the first civilian Governor of the State, Chief Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha, who passed on last Saturday at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital. He was 63.

A Government House statement signed by Daniel Iwariso-Markson,the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seriake Dickson, declared that to this effect, all flags in all public buildings and premises across the state be flown at half mast for the period.

According to the statement, the 7 days mourning period and the flying of the flags at half mast takes effect from Monday, 12 October.

Condolence registers have been opened in Government House, the State Secretariat complex and Ijaw House, all in the state capital.
