The chairman of Delta state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Edwin Uzor, has described prominent members of the party who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as thieves and debtors who stole government’s money when they served in the administration of immediate past governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.

Those who defected from the PDP to the APC last weekend included Paulinus Akpeki, the former Chief of Staff to former governor Uduaghan, and two former commissioners in his administration, Misan Kubeinje, Ebifa Ijomah and John Akwara.

Misan Kubeinje and Ebifa Ijomah were the commissioners in charge of agriculture and youth development respectively in Uduaghan’s government, while John Akwara was a governorship aspirant during the last governorship election.

Reacting to the defection of the former PDP chieftains, Uzor described them as political prostitutes who are pursuing selfish interests, adding that their defection would not affect the fortunes of the party in the state.

He further described the defectors as arrogant and corrupt officials who were looking for where to hide as anti-graft agencies were already after them.

“Those decampees stole government money, and the system will soon come after them. One of them owes Easy Taste Nigeria Limited. He collected N850 million as an advance payment to do a job in the riverine area of the state, up till today, nothing has been done there.

“The law enforcement agency will soon go after them. Akpeki is the owner of Poda which was given a contract since 2013, mobilization was done and he has not done anything.

“Kubeinje was given contract to build the stadium at Koko when he was member House of Assembly. As I speak, that stadium has been abandoned, he did nothing. Where is the money he collected?” he queried.

He continued: “So, you have seen the persons I have mentioned, they are those who have stolen the money of Delta State, I want them to return the money. Their exit is to get a cover from the opposition which is the ruling party at the federal level, where they feel that the APC is controlling the anti-graft agencies.

“That is why they decamped in a way to cover themselves so that they will not be hunted but I can assure you with good Nigerians and Lamorde as a good disciplinarian, he is going to come after them. Everybody who has stolen money must be caught, that I can assure you.”

The Delta PDP Chairman said Akpeki and his co-defectors lacked electoral value in their respective constituencies, adding that they have been rejected by their own people.

He however described the relationship between the party and immediate past governor Uduaghan as very cordial despite speculations that the decampees are the ex-governor’s foot soldiers who had left to prepare the ground for their master.

“The relationship between the leadership of this state and the former governor is still very cordial. We have no issues and we can never have issues. He is one of our leaders and he remains one of our own. He is 100 percent PDP man,” he emphasized.
