A group, the Abuja Global Shapers has called for support for victims of the recent bomb blast in Abuja following recent attacks in Borno State and in Kuje and Nyanya areas of the Federal Capital Territory, which security officials say was coordinated.

The blasts left over 50 dead and many others injured.

In a statement, curator of the group, Jake Effoduh, commiserated with the victims families and all Nigerians on the incident. He called for intensified prayers and vigilance.

“We were at a meeting on Friday evening, to come up with plans on how to shape our community by spending a day teaching children at an IDP Camp, only to get home and hear of another attack. We all must work together to stop nip this problem in the bud; it could have been anybody. So, instead of just sitting back to lament, we decided to do something to assist the victims,” he said.

He added that the group has also organized a donation drive for the families affected to cushion their suffering.

“This drive will accept items such as laundered used clothing, food items, toiletries among others. During our visit to the National Hospital, we did a needs assessment. We also met some of the victims.

He added that: Esther, a 22-year-old polytechnic student in Nassarawa who came home to spend the weekend with her family lost her mum, sister and brother in the attack. They were walking home from their mother’s shop in Kuje when the incident occurred. Only her and the sister’s baby survived,” he said.

He noted that, “They are currently receiving treatment. Baby Ifeoluwa, who is less than one-year old, survived but her mother who was carrying her, died. Her little foot is in a cast.

“We recognise government’s effort, but more needs to be done to enable victims rebuilding their lives when they leave the hospital. Items can be dropped off at our stationed trucks located at MOPOL Junction Football Field, beside Sani Brothers Filling Station, Nyanya, and, opposite Peniel Apartments, the junction of Ademola Adetokunbo and Thaba Tseka, Wuse 2, Abuja everyday from Tuesday 6th to Friday the 9th between the hours of 9am and 6pm daily. We’ll be distributing the items between the victims in National Hospital and Asokoro General Hospital,” he said.
