Night guard, ex-convict arrested for armed robbery in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command is not leaving anything to chance in chasing armed robbers out of the state as they again arrested five suspected armed robbers who have been terrorizing the good people of Itele, Ijaba, Iya Iyesi and other places in Ado Odo Ota local government area of Ogun State, western.

They were arrested after the suspects had carried out some robbery operations in the areas.

According to a release on Friday and signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the arrested suspects are Mohammed Aliu, Ojulari Sakiru, Akinniyi Ademola, Odeh Benedict and Sunday Uche.

The detectives attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the command while acting on a tip off, arrested one of the suspects, Mohammed Aliu, in Lafenwa area of Abeokuta on September 20th, 2015 at 12:00 mid night.

Aliu’s arrest later led to the arrest of the other four suspects at various locations in the State.

Items recovered from the suspects include 3 locally made single-barreled guns, a dummy gun, some life cartridges, assorted charms and 13 mobile phones and one Toyota RAV 4 SUV with registration number JJJ 559 BF, which, according to the statement, has been released to the owner as directed by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Abdulmajid Ali.

Odeh Benedict, who is from Kogi State, had been in prison custody for another offence and was released recently before he was arrested for armed robbery, while Sunday Uche, who hails from Abia State, was a night guard at Iyana Iyesi community and alleged leader of the robbery gang.

Sunday allegedly deceived members of the community when they were calling on him while the robbery operation lasted, as he responded that he was in charge, whereas he was the one who led the armed robbers to rob his “employers”.

The Commissioner of Police has directed that the SARS, Ogun State should carry out proper investigation into the case and charge the suspects to court immediately the investigation is completed, with the credible evidence the police have against them.

Ali also advised members of the public to always screen those to be employed as night guards or maids to avoid such an incident in the state.
