The Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, says the police have been placed on red alert as the nation celebrates her 55th Independence anniversary on 1 October.

Arase, in a statement assured Nigerians of a peaceful anniversary celebration, as officers and men of the Force have been charged to provide round the clock security, including effective aerial and vehicular patrol of all nooks and crannies of the country, to enable Nigerians mark yet another Independence anniversary.

The police boss specifically directed all Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Command Commissioners of Police to ensure adequate and effective deployment of all operational tools and manpower within their Commands, in order to guarantee the safety and well-being of the citizenry.

Arase enjoined all well-meaning persons and groups, to cooperate with the Force by providing useful information, especially with regards to the on-going fight against terrorism and other forms of crimes and criminalities, for the mutual benefit and collective interest of the citizenry.

He saluted the courage and determination of Nigerians to build and sustain a strong, indivisible and virile nation, in spite of prevailing circumstances.
