The Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona has called on the government at all levels to take their promises as a covenant between them and the electorate.

The monarch also charged President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to continuously live to the biddings of the people, reminding him that the change mission must be seen.

Awujale stated this on Saturday while addressing mammoth crowd at the Ojude Oba festival held at the Royal pavilion, opposite the Awujale palace in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

He stated that the festival has continued to be the rallying point for all Ijebus, irrespective of their religious, political or social leaning.

Awujale boasted that the Ijebus have always been known for commerce in the past and that the people remain very industrious till this day.

According to him,”it is on record that the Ijebus as a people had the good fortune of early contacts with the expatriates, the Portuguese traders with whom we engaged very seriously in commercial activities that brought unrivaled enormous prosperity to our land.

“Not only did we excel in commerce, our democratic administration was already in place before the advent of the colonial masters and to be eventually recognised by them on arrival in Nigeria, socially we were in the forefront.

“We, the Ijebus are today grateful to God that we are as before in the forefront of human endeavour, be it economic, commercial, social, academical and so on,” Awujale said.

The monarch then congratulated all Ijebu sons and daughters for this year’s festival, urging them not to rest on their oars but to continue flying flag.

In her address the Special Guest of Honour at this year’s Ojude Oba festival, Senator Daisy Danjuma called on Nigerians communities to emulate the culture of Ijebus.

The federal lawmaker, who became the first woman to be invited as the Special Guest at the festival, which has become a world class international tourist attraction said she was privileged to be at the festival.

She congratulated the winners of this year’s inter-regberegbe and inter warriors (The Balogun’s) parade, jokingly stating that she is a member of the winning team because her birthday falls within the Bobakeye age group, 1954 -1956.
