Law, Medicine top cut-off point at UI with 74 marks

In the on-going 2015/2016 admission exercise at the University of Ibadan (UI), which will see the admission of 3,700 out of at least 40,000 students that applied for admission, the institution has released cut-off marks for all its courses with Medicine and Law being the highest at 74.

This is followed by Communication and Language Arts (CLA) with 70, Economics, 69, Political Science and English Language and Literature, 68, Linguistics, 67, Theatre Arts, Islamic Studies and English Education, 65, European Studies-French and Sociology, 64, Pharmacy, 63, European Studies-German, Arabic Language and Literature, 62.

Other courses are: Psychology, Dentistry and Physiotherapy 61, and European Studies-Russian, Psychology and Nursing 60.
Others within the range of 59 to 50 are: Anthropology 50, Archaeology 50, Botany, 50, Chemistry 50, Computer Science 50, Geography 50, Geology 50, Industrial Chemistry 50, Mathematics 50, Microbiology 54, Physics 50, Statistics 50, Zoology 50, Anthropology 52, Archaeology 57, Classics, 53, History 50, Linguistics-Igbo 50, Linguistics- Yoruba 58, Music 57, Philosophy 55, Religious Studies 50, Adult Education 50, Educational Management 50, Guidance & Counseling 53, Health Education 50, Human Kinetics 50, and LARIS 56.

At the time of filing this report, cut-off marks have not been fixed for: Teacher Education Social Science, Teacher education Science, History Education, Communication and Language Art Education, French Education, and Teacher Education Art.

Prior to the release of the cut-off points, the institution revealed that out of 19,268 applicants that sat for the Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (Post-UTME), 8,992 applicants scored above 50 percent.

According to the institution’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, Admin, Professor Emilolorun Ayelari, “In UI, only candidates that scored over 200 in the Post-UTME were invited for the post-UTME test. 20,800 applied but 19,268 candidates took part in the examination. A total of 8,992 candidates scored above 50 marks, representing 46.7 per cent of the candidates.

“This is lower than the 67.7 per cent that was recorded last year. This year, the highest score is 86 marks scored by Adetunji Adebowale and Amaji Charles. Adebiyi Toluwalogo scored 85 marks while Dorcas Odunayo and Olowosulu Olawumi scored 83. These five will enjoy full UI scholarship.”
