Thousands of residents of Oshodi defy yesterday’s heavy downpour to attend the Lagos City-wide Crusade being organised by the Deeper Christian Life Ministry in conjunction with the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, and the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in Oshodi.

Over 7,000 participants had thronged the Ikeja Grammar School, Oshodi, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria where the General Superintendent, Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi was to minister around 5.00pm on Thursday.

As the choruses and sing inspirations were on, the heaven was let loose and heavy rainfall descended but the crowd refused to vacate the premises of the crusade. They stayed in the heavy downpour singing and rejoicing that they would be blessed when the man of God ministered.

Few of them had their umbrellas on while the majority had no umbrellas and were drenched, but they were resilient and would not allow anything to disturb them as they had their eyes on receiving miracles after Kumuyi’s prayer.

Men, women and children were undaunted in their resolve to remain in the rains for over three hours waiting patiently for Kumuyi’s sermon to begin. Some who could not gain entrance into the school climbed the fence to get a view of the event.

Hundreds came to the altar through in the marshy terrain occasioned by the heavy downpour to make a decision for Christ, not minding the discomfort and the chilly environment.

Zebulon Agomuo, a participant at the event said despite the heavy downpour, thousands of people remained as they did not want the blessings of God to elude them as this is simply showers of blessings.

Martha Smart, said she resolved to remain in the rain because she did not want to miss the blessings of God, saying that despite the marshy and muddy terrain she and others remained till the end of the programme.

Kumuyi came up around 7.30pm for his sermon. As soon as the crowd saw him on stage, great joy erupted among them as they responded with loud ovation not minding the rain which fell all through the programme.

Speaking on the topic: “Supernatural Encounter for Extra-Ordinary Miracles,” Kumuyi cited the example of Jesus raising up Lazarus from the dead in the Bible, saying that for people to received God’s blessings, they must take away the ‘stone’ of unbelief, anger, idolatry, occultism and all other sins by giving their lives to Christ.

According to him, as Lazarus came alive after Jesus prayer, “so will you come alive tonight. Jesus had the power to raise up Lazarus but he waited until they have removed the stone. When Christ says take away the stone, don’t argue.”

The man of God challenged the large congregation not to allow the heavy downpour dampen their faith, but to believe, citing an example of the crusade he held in Ebonyi State where a man despite his father’s death braved the odd to attend the crusade.

He explained that the man’s sibling tried to dissuade him from going for the crusade, especially when their father just died, but noted that he refused and attended the programme.

“During the programme midway, it was raining heavily. I encouraged the people to stay and they stayed in the rain. Before the prayer time, the rain stopped. After I prayed that night, the man’s sibling called him from the village that their father has risen from the death,” he said.

He charged the congregation to believe, saying that the rain pouring down would not hinder the power of God from descending from heaven to heal, deliver and solve their problems if they could only believe and take away the ‘stone’ of hindrances from receiving the best from God.
