The UN Security Council has said that terrorism constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.
In a statement in New York on Thursday, the 15-member Council condemned in the strongest terms, Thursday’s horrific terror attack at a mosque in Sana’a, Yemen.
The Council said that all acts of terror were criminal and unjustifiable regardless of their motivation, wherever and whenever, and by whosoever committed.
The attack on the mosque resulted in a large number of deaths and casualties.
The Council reiterated its determination to combat all forms of terrorism in accordance with its responsibilities under the Charter of the UN.
The Council underscored the need to bring perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of the reprehensible acts of terror to justice.
It urged all states to cooperate actively with the Yemeni authorities in this regard in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions.
The Council also urged states to ensure that measures taken to combat terrorism complied with all their obligations under international law, especially in relation to international human rights, refugee and humanitarian law.
