The Lagos State House of Assembly will be sending a delegation of lawmakers on a condolence visit to Ikenne, the Ogun State hometown of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, over the death of the matriarch of the Awolowo family, Chief Mrs. Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo.

The resolution was reached after a member of the House, Mojisola Lawal from Apapa Constituency 1, urged her colleagues to join in commiserating with the family of the late HID Awolowo.

Mrs. Awolowo died at the age of 99 just two months to her 100th birthday in November.

Miss Lawal told her colleagues that she was a strong supporter of the late Chief Awolowo, who contributed to the development of Lagos State and Nigeria.

Contributing, Deputy Majority Leader of the House and representative of Apapa Constituency 2 at the House, Olumuyiwa Jimoh, said that the late Mrs. Awolowo was a woman of substance, who stood by her husband.

“She was the Chairman of the Nigerian Tribune, the only newspaper that started before independence of Nigeria and that is still existing to date.

“We can send a letter of condolence to the family house in Lagos,” he suggested.

Also, Omotayo Oduntan from Alimosho Constituency 2, said Mrs. Awolowo was a major pillar of support for her husband and that she stood by him throughout his turbulent period.

Oduntan advised all women to learn from the example set by the late Mrs. Awolowo and be dutiful to their husbands.

While supporting Miss Lawal, the Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa said that the roles played by the late Mrs. Awolowo could not be forgotten in a hurry and that the House would write a condolence letter to the family and send a delegation to Ikenne over her death.
