Mrs Charity Vedelago, a governorship aspirant on the platform of All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa, has solicited women support for her candidature during the party’s primary scheduled for September 22.

She told NAN on Sunday that women had great roles to play in Nigeria’s political arrangements by promoting the interests of women seeking for political offices.

According to her, active participation of women in politics will also promote women’s interests in the scheme of government activities for emancipation of womenfolk.

She said with the support of women in the state, she had the confidence of emerging as APC governorship flag bearer.

Vedelago also explained that APC had become popular in Bayelsa following the defection of many bigwigs from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the party.

“APC is the ultimate now; it is the party that people believe can bring the desired change in the state, especially to the grassroots.

“By the grace of God, the party’s strength and my achievements give me an assurance that the party will produce the next governor of the state irrespective of the power of incumbency,” she said.

Vedelago, who was a former Commissioner for Transport in the state, said if elected, she would focus on the development of agriculture, education and tourism among others.

“My attention will also be on providing adequate security, fighting corruption and developing the grassroots,” she said.

She observed that many politicians in the state defected from PDP to APC because “the party has failed to address some issues bordering on the plight of the masses.”
