The Lagos Citizens Mediation Centre, CMC, is set to partner with the United Nations on its International Day of Peace through a walk for peace and legal clinic on Monday.

According to the Director of the Centre, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Odusanya, the Centre is proposing to hold a “Walk for Peace and Legal Clinic” on Monday to further sensitise the public on the need for peaceful coexistence which could foster socio- economic development, having contributed immensely to the delivery of prompt justice by offering free mediation services.

She stated this while receiving a team from the United Nations Information Centre, UNIC, headed by the Director, Mr Ronald Kyanga on a visit to the Centre.

Mrs Odusanya further said that the operations of the Centre had become a model for other states to emulate as the number of cases in the courts had drastically reduced, adding that the Lagos CMC has been instrumental to the establishment of other CMC centres in some states.

She revealed that partnering with the United Nations Day of Peace was apt since the whole activity of the Centre is geared towards the maintenance of peace and order in the state, having handled over 34,000 cases in 2014 and 22,819 since January 2015.

Speaking, Kyanga opined that peace is a necessary ambience for development in any country. He commended the Centre on the achievements attained, noting that the art of mediation was fast becoming a global phenomenon.

He expressed the UNIC’s enthusiasm to collaborate with the Centre in commemorating this year’s World Peace Day with a walk and legal clinic, stating that the number of satisfied parties showed the public’s vote of confidence on the Centre.

The UN International Day of Peace takes place annually on September 21.

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, is expected to flag off the event.
