Five months after they were dethroned by the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kaduna State, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP stakeholders in Kaduna North have regrouped to express their commitment to remain in the party and to strategise on how to reclaim power from the ruling party, APC, in the state in 2019.
The stakeholders, who also vowed to retake all PDP strongholds that were captured by APC during the 2015 elections in Kaduna, expressed optimism that PDP will bounce back, considering the feelers the party is getting from a large number of supporters and other Nigerians who still believe in the party.
Addressing newsmen after the closed door meeting held in Kaduna on Thursday, Senator Mohammed Aruwa, who presided over the meeting, said members of PDP are working hard to ensure the party remains organized and united.
While speaking on the resolve of PDP to play the role of an opposition party, he said “our members are also working assiduously to achieve the established goal of a formidable opposition party.”
According to Aruwa, PDP is still a party with a hybrid of leaders with the requisite experience to provide Nigerians with a focused leadership.
“That APC defeated our party in the 2015 elections in the state and federal levels is not enough grounds to write off the party,” he said.
The Senator who represented Kaduna North Central in the National Assembly, however, urged all PDP members in the state to be patient and work closely with the party in its effort to reclaim power at all levels in 2019.
Meanwhile, reacting to rumours that some PDP members defected to APC in Kaduna North, Aruwa said they are baseless rumours, stressing that “we are saying authoritatively that no PDP member in Kaduna North defected to APC and we have no information about anyone that has indicated interest to do so.”
