The 10th edition of Med-View/Lagos NUJ Media Games, which kicked off yesterday has already producing leaders in the group stage of football event with teams of Daar Communications and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN leading the packs.

After matches of Day 2 of the competition sponsored by Med-View airline, football teams of Daar Communications and the FRCN have garnered six points with a view of just picking a point each in their remaining matches of the group stage to qualify for the quarter finals.

Daar Communications walked over Lagos Television, LTV, who came late for their first round match on Monday and beat Silverbird Television, STV 1-0 in Tuesday’s second game.

FRCN were too much for Voice of Nigeria, VON, in their first match on Monday which ended 2-1, while the team handled by Kunle Adeyeye walloped Federal Information team 2-0 in Tuesday’s match.

In other matches decided Tuesday, STV walked over News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, Business Plus magazine lost to The Source 0-1. Nigeria Television Authority, NTA, walked over Tell magazine, while Complete Sports defeated The Source who were playing their second match of the group stage 1-0.

Matches of the group stage continue Wednesday with Vanguard playing against Business Plus by 9:00 a.m at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos followed by the game between Sun and Tell. Lagos Information will trade tackles with FRCN, LTV play against STV, SportsDay will lock horns with NTA and Daar Communications and NAN battle each others for the three points at stake.

More sports will also take centre stage in Day 3 with table tennis holding at the knock up hall of the National Stadium, Ayo, Draughts, Scrabble and Chess will also hold.

Athletics in 100m, 200m, 4×100 male and female will hold on Friday, while Marathon takes place on Saturday as well as the third place match of the football event.

The closing ceremony will also hold on Saturday. President of NUJ, Mr. Waheed Odusile was on ground to watch proceedings on Day 2 of the competition.

No fewer than 47 media houses (both in print and electronic) are taken part in the tournament, which chairman of the Lagos chapter of Nigerian Union of Journalist, NUJ, Deji Elumoye said is being staged to unite journalists from all the media houses in Lagos and for them to enjoy the spirit of camaraderie.

“Lagos will always set the pace for others to follow because we are the Centre of Excellence. I am aware that other councils are involved in programmes like this but none has been able to sustain it for an unbroken 10 years which we are marking in this year’s edition,” Elumoye said at the opening ceremony on Monday.
