Nasarawa United Football Club of Lafia on Sunday ended Kano Pillars’ 12-year unbeaten home record at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that they beat Kano Pillars 2-1 in a week 25 match of the 2014/2015 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The last time Kano Pillars lost in front of their home fans was in a 2-1 loss against Julius Berger FC in 2003.
Former Pillars striker, Mannir Ubale, scored the opening goal for the visitors in the 12th minute with a solo effort.
Bature Yaro doubled the lead for the Lafia-based team in the 16th minute to shock the defending champions.
Kano Pillars’ captain, Rabiu Ali, scored their consolation goal in the 47th minute of the tension-soaked match.
All efforts by Pillars to turn the game around were thwarted by the visitors who seemed to be putting all foot right.
At the end of the match, Kabiru Dogo, coach of Nasarawa United, praised the performance of his players.
“We won against a good side and my team will continue to work hard to win our next match,’’ he said.
Dogo also dedicated the win to his former senior colleague in the club, coach Muhammad Babaganaru, who a few weeks ago joined Kano Pillars.
Meanwhile, Babaganaru, in an interview after the match also, said he was impressed with the performance of the team.
He then congratulated the visitors for the win.
