The President of the Allstars International, Lagos, Chief Ugochukwu Ugorji, has come out strongly to rally support for the growth of football in Nigeria.

Chief Ugorji, who is also a Director at the Federal Ministry of Education, admonished corporate bodies as well as well-placed individuals, to invest resources in Nigerian football, especially the local leagues.

According to the ex-footballer, “it is unfortunate to see Nigerians of all cadres display unalloyed and fanatical love for foreign clubsides. Truly, it is a matter of choice, but it is also bad to neglect your own, while you spend lavishly on jerseys and other memorabilia of those foreign teams. I am proud to say, I love and support 3SC, the Oluyole darling team in Ibadan. This is a team I played against in the past,” Ugorji said.

He, however, lauded the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, headed by Amaju Pinnick, for its capacity enhancement programmes for the coaches and referees.

Ugorji urged coaches in Nigeria to follow the footsteps of Coach lfeanyi Onyedika in training themselves without waiting on the government.

He affirmed that the Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, would soon become a member of the Allstars, the high-flying recreation outfit.

“Governor Ambode is a great sports fan and like the former governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, he would soon become one of us. Allstars International is one of the best teams of ex-footballers and enthusiasts on the continent. We equally boast of well laid out structures and top notch welfare packages for our members,’’ he said.
