3 suspected cult leaders arrested

The police have arrested three men suspected to be leaders of cult groups that have been terrorising residents in parts of Lagos State, western Nigeria.

Their arrest followed a clash between the rival groups that left many people injured and properties destroyed.

The suspects are Jamiu Sadiq, 20, popularly known as Jasper, Adigun Abiodun, 22, and Okechukwu Nsofor, 22.

P.M.NEWS gathered that the suspects were arrested in different parts of Lagos where they terrorised residents.

One of the suspects, Nsofor, was arrested at 2, Salako street, Ilasamaja where he operated with other members of his cult group.

Sadiq and Abiodun allegedly operated as the leaders of the group in Fabiyi area of Lagos State and beyond.

They were charged with conduct likely to cause breach of public peace and assisting in management of unlawful society under the Criminal Code.

The prosecutor informed the court that the suspects organised other people at large and formed unlawful society that have been terrorising people in the areas they operate.

He urged the court to take cognizance of the danger they posed to the society.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Joy Ugbomoiko granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

They were remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending when they will perfect their bail.

The matter was adjourned till 16 September, 2015.
