A commuter bus driver, Obi Chinedu, has been arrested and charged before Magistrates’ Court, Ejigbo for allegedly knocking down a staff of Lagos State Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, which led to the amputation of her leg in a hospital in Lagos State, western Nigeria.

The incident happened at Cele bus stop along Isheri-Igando expressway where the victim was on official duty.

The 38-year-old Chinedu allegedly drove his commuter bus with registration number SMK 852 XC in a dangerous manner and knocked down Mrs. Funke Olorunda while she was on duty.

She was rushed to Igando General Hospital where she was referred to the National orthopedic Hospital in Igbobi, Lagos.

Due to the seriousness of the injury she sustained, her left leg was amputated to save her life.

Olorunda is now walking with one leg with the aid of a walking stick.

Chindu was arrested and detained at the police station in Idimu Division before he was charged to court with driving in a dangerous manner and knocking down Funke which caused amputation of her leg.

He pleaded not guilty.

Chinedu, through his counsel, informed the court about his regrets concerning the accident and expressed his willingness to settle the matter out of court and treat the victim.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs J. O. E. Adeyemi granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Chinedu was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending when he will perfect his bail condition.

The matter was further adjourned till 6 September, 2015.
