National Publicity Secretary of the Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, has come under attack over the petition against Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, which he submitted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Odumakin, an indigene of Osun State, submitted the petition on behalf of a group, Osun Stakeholders, alleging financial recklessness, corruption, money laundering and fraudulent application of Osun State’s resources against the Governor.

The Coalition of APC Support Groups, South West Zone, however, believes that Odumakin has ulterior motives behind the petition he wrote.

The group, which is an accredited national body for all APC Support Groups in Nigeria and inaugurated by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC led by Chief John Oyegun, chided Odumakin for not carrying out his findings very well before sending his petition.

According to the secretary of the Coalition in the South West Zone, Comrade Majeed Yahaya, Odumakin, an activist, is a bad student of financial arithmetic, who fails to realise that in government financial accounting, capital projects may not be finished in a year and can be rolled over to the next accounting year.

“For Odumakin to be telling us that the abandoned projects scattered across the state is a sign of bad governance is very bad. I want to tell him that this is an indication of a government that is working well. His findings ought to have revealed to tell him the reason the government was unable to complete those projects which we know, was due to dwindling revenue accruing to the state from the federation account. We have some governments in Nigeria today that are not doing anything in their states,” he said.

Comrade Yahaya said if Odumakin failed to see the good work Aregbesola is doing in Osun State, “I think it is better we tell him. Recently, a non-governmental organisation, Voice of African Women for Human Dignity gave Aregbesola an award for Service to Humanity in recognition of his immense contribution to the survival of human dignity. This was an assessment of Aregbesola’s government from an impartial body.

“I can see Odumakin as an inconsistent man who in 2007 the world saw as the spokesman of President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign organisation and now in 2015, he abandoned the man, turned around to be an avid critic of Buhari during the 2015 general elections. He went on to pitch tent with former President Goodluck Jonathan. This was rather so bad from an activist who we once respected,” Comrade Yahaya said.
