Man Nabbed For Stealing In Church

A 32-year-old man has been arrested and charged before a Magistrates’ court sitting in Ejigbo for stealing during a vigil inside a church in Lagos State, western Nigeria.

The suspect, Hakeem Adeola, was caught after he stole a blackberry phone and torchlight belonging to Olatunbosun Oladele who also attended the vigil.

The incident happened at Christ Apostolic Church, CAC, located at Omiyale Street, Ejigbo, Lagos.

Adeola joined the congregation during the vigil and pretended to be praying along with others.

But he had another mission entirely for attending the service as he stole a blackberry phone and torchlight belonging to Oladele while the service was going on.

P.M.NEWS gathered that Oladele kept the items on his seat and closed his eyes and was busy praying, while Adeola who stood beside him stole the items and and attempted hurriedly to leave the church.

However, before he could escape, he was accosted by security men who arrested him.

The items were recovered from him and handed to the police at Ejigbo Station.

At the station, he reportedly confessed that he was not a member of the church but only attended the service to steal.

He was charged to court with stealing under the Criminal Code.

He pleaded not guilty and the presiding Magistrate, Mr A.A. Fashola, granted him bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.

He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail.

The matter was adjourned till 31 August, 2015.
