The police at Ikotun division have arrested and charged a man before Ejigbo Magistrates’ court for allegedly beating his wife which resulted in her blindness in Lagos State, western Nigeria.

The suspect, Paul Uduozor, allegedly battered his wife, Faith, and in the process damaged her eyes.

The victim’s eyes’ lenses were damaged and she can no longer see with both eyes.

The incident happened at 6, Oloro street, off Akani street, Abaranje, Ikotun, where they reside.

The matter was reported to the police and Paul was arrested and charged to court for the alleged offence.

He was charged with causing permanent defect to Faith’s eyes and assault under the Criminal Code.

Nigeria Police LogoHe pleaded not guilty and the prosecutor, Mr Femi Adeleye, objected to his bail on the ground that Faith will be undergoing operation which could result in more complications.

He prayed the court to remand Uduozor in prison custody pending the outcome of the operation.

However, the presiding Magistrate, Mr A. A. Fashola granted him bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Uduozor was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending when he will perfect his bail.

The matter was adjourned till 31 August, 2015.

P.M.NEWS gathered from the couple’s neighbours that Uduozor and Faith were always fighting until the latest fight that resulted in her blindness.

The victim was reportedly battered a few months ago and she fainted and was taken to a hospital where she was revived.

During the latest assault, it was learnt that Uduozor gave Faith several severe blows and some landed on her eyes which caused the damage to the eyes.
