Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday stated that he will only identify with positive people, while reiterating that his decision to abstain from party politics is permanent.

Obasanjo said this when Governor Idris Wada of Kogi visited him in Abeokuta.

“I would continue to identify with people who mean well and continue to contribute positively to the development of Nigeria,” Obasanjo said to Wada who is seeking a second term as governor.

He added that: “Everybody is welcome irrespective of his political leaning provided he or she believes in the nation Nigeria and has good intentions towards its development.

“Personality is more important than platform in the achievement of goals.

“We should understand that it is not the party that makes the individual but that it is the individual that makes the party. It is who you are that you bring into the party.”

Obasanjo commended Wada for winning the leadership award for his leadership qualities, adding that Nigeria needed more of such personality.

Wada told journalists later that Obasanjo was a detribalised Nigerian. “I received an award in Lagos on Sunday as the Best Performing Governor in the country; and I just deemed it fit to come and visit the baba.

“I have learnt a lot of things from him,” he said.
