The police on Tuesday arraigned a 90 year-old man, Rasaki Raji, at an Iyaganku Senior Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for obtaining N150,000 on false pretext.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Oluseye Oyebamiji, told the court that Raji obtained the said sum from Omolara Ajayi as payment for half a plot of land.

Oyebamiji said the accused was facing a two-count charge of obtaining money on false pretext and stealing.

He added that “the plot of land was, however, not given to Ajayi as promised by Raji.”

He also said that the aforesaid N150,000 was presumed to have been stolen by Raji from Ajayi since Raji converted the money to his own use since 2004.

The offence contravened sections 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code Cap.38, Vol. 11, Laws of Oyo State 2000, he added.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and the Senior Magistrate, Patricia Adetuyibi, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.

Adetuyibi said one of the sureties must be a landlord at Idi Oro, while the second surety must be a gainfully employed blood relation of the accused person.

She then adjourned the case till Sept. 8 for further hearing.
