Abia-born Polish Parliamentarian Visits Abia Speaker

The Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly, RT. Hon. Martins Okechukwu Azubuike, has lauded the inter-legislative interface between the Abia State House of Assembly and the Polish parliament.

Receiving a Polish-Nigerian member of the parliament from Poland, Mr. John Abraham Godson, who was at the Assembly Complex, Rt. Hon. Azubuike stated that the visit will enhance the mutual and cordial relationship that has existed between Nigeria and Poland, calling for more legislative discourse between both parliaments.

In a Press statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Prince Clinton Uba, the Speaker said Mr. John Abraham Godson hails from Ofeiyi, Umuahia South L.G.A, Abia State and graduated from Abia State University, Uturu before he moved to Poland, where he has lived for the past 22yrs.

According to the statement, Godson said he is in his home state to interface with Abia lawmakers and to extend an official invitation to Mr. Speaker and other House Members to her Parliamentary Summit in Poland, come October, 2015, as the President of African Institute for the purpose of enhancing legislative relationship between Nigeria and Poland, stating that, he will do all within his legislative ability to enhance the inter-legislative cooperation between both parliaments.

In his response, Azubuike thanked the visitor on behalf of the House members for flying the flag of Abia State and Nigeria.

He praised his landmark achievement in far away Poland, from a councilor in Poland and to become a parliamentarian in the same country.

The Speaker assured the visitor that Abia House of Assembly will partner with multilateral suitors like the parliament of other countries like Poland.

He pointed out that Nigerian legislators are still grappling with legislative development, autonomy and other democratic ethos, in the area of legislative infrastructure, capacity building for both legislators and legislative staff.

He added that Abia State Government will be willing to welcome foreign investors, especially in agriculture and tourism.

In his vote of thanks, Mr. Enyi Habour, the facilitator of the visit of Godson, said he had to bring Godson home for mutual inter-legislative enhancement and prayed for further strengthening of the legislative relations between Abia State House of Assembly and the parliament of Poland.

Present during the visit were the Deputy Speaker, RT. Hon. Cosmas Ndukwe, other house members such as Tony Mezie Nwaubani, Prince Ikedi Ezekwesiri, Chikwendu Kalu, Paul Taribo and Emmanuel Clinton Ebere.
