Kaduna State Police Command, northwest Nigeria, on Friday paraded 20 persons suspected to be members of robbery gangs terrorising the state for the past three weeks.

Parading the suspects at the Kaduna Police Headquarters, the State Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu said the arrest of the suspects was a major breakthrough recorded by the Command this year.

Addressing pressmen, the police boss narrated that on the 10th of June 2015, detectives of anti- Robbery Squad led by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Lawal Abdullahi arrested Umar Usman who is said to be a ring leader of different gangs who specialized in armed robbery, arm manufacture and supply as well aas car snatching at gun point in Kaduna, Kogi, Zamfara states and Abuja.

He also disclosed that the suspect named 13 members of his gang and this led to their arrest.

The arrest, which was made on 29 July, 2015 he said, followed a a tip-off by some good citizens to the police command at Kafanchan area.

The police immediately raided the residence of Bulus Kinze and James Kinze both males of Kogun village, Jema’a Local Government Area of the state.

He revealed that when these suspects were arrested, the following exhibits were recovered from them: two locally made rifles, one locally made SMG rifle and its magazine, two locally made pistols, two police coloured AK-47 magazines, one locally made AK-47 magazine, 20 live 0.36 special, revolver ammunition, three live 7.62mm long, large ammunition among others.

The police commissioner also disclosed that on the same date at about 2203hrs, Police Safer Highway Patrol team in Dangwan village between Gododo and Dagindi road intercepted and engaged some armed bandits in a gun duel where they chased them through a rocky area and as a result, one AK-47 rifle breech No.47/3958 and two live ammunition was recovered.

While urging the public to be vigilant and report anyone suspected to be a criminal to the police, he assured the citizens of Kaduna of adequate protection of their lives and property.

Meanwhile, in order to enhance the operation of the police in the state, Kaduna state government has donated 50 patrol vehicles to the command.

The special assistant on media and publicity to Governor Nasir El-Rufai, disclosed this while speaking to journalists at the state’s police headquarters.

According to him, the state government was bent on ridding the state of criminal elements that have been terrorizing the people of the state.

“We want to establish a synergy with the police in the state and that is why we are supporting them by providing them with patrol vehicles,” he said.
