The lawmaker representing Epe Constituency 2 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Segun Olulade, on Thursday said the acceptance of the position of the All Progressives Congress relating the House of Representatives leadership is a good sign of respect for party supremacy.

Olulade in a statement in Lagos noted that Speaker Yakubu Dogara, demonstrated respect for President Muhammadu Buhari with the way he finally put the leadership issue to rest.

The lawmaker stressed that such honour for the President and the party would go a long way in strengthening unity within the party.

He further said the choice of Femi Gbajabiamila as House leader is a good omen for a vibrant House of Representatives and a more progressive party base.

He stressed further that the nation was thirsty for development and “we cannot afford to disappoint Nigerians who are already waiting anxiously for the fruit of change.

“As a lawmaker myself, I am the worried about crisis that had rocked the National Assembly talking about leadership; but I am happy that we have a resolution that is coming out successful, shutting down opposition critics who wished the All Progressives Congress bad.

“I wish to seize this opportunity to call on the representatives of our party at the upper chamber to borrow a leaf from the win-win approach deployed by Dogara led lower chamber.

“In Dogara’s words, the collective position of the party is supreme over individual personal ambitions and Nigerians who voted lawmakers must not be made to swallow a long pebble that will be orchestrated by their elected leaders.

“Therefore, it is expected that those concerned will ensure party positions are always respected in reaching final resolutions of any internal wrangling.”

Olulade noted that Nigeria’s democracy was growing fast with the best practice of crisis management embedded in the philosophy of the progressives right from merger time towards the party primaries and now.

He stressed that the most important thing currently is the ability to resolve differences which is the fundamental principle of growth and development.

The former chairman of the House Commiittee on Information thanked President Muhammadu Buhari, the party leadership and all stakeholders at various levels for their roles in resolving the crisis and expressed hope that the nation would begin to enjoy the dividends of democracy which the All progressives Congress is capable of giving.
