A non-governmental organisation, NGO, Voice of African Women for Human Dignity has explained why the body gave Governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola an award last week in Abuja.

President of the organisation, Hajia Amina Idris said that the Voice of African Women for Human Dignity believes the governor deserved the award of Service to Humanity in recognition of his immense contribution to the survival of human dignity.

“The free meal programme for school children in Osun State which has become a benchmark on how to increase child education and the incentive programme for the people living with disability, the old and widows in Osun state are some of the governor’s laudable programmes that are worthy of commendation,” she said.

Hajia Idris further said that the Board of Director of the Voice of African Women for Human Dignity was so passionate with the way Governor Aregbesola is going about addressing societal ills as it affect the good people of Osun State, the vulnerable and the oppressed. This, she said, motivated the Directors, during a meeting on 8 July, to unanimously agree that the governor should be awarded.

“The Board has equally agreed to appoint Governor Aregbesola as the Patron of the Voice of African Women for Human Dignity in view of his humble and compassionate disposition in the conduct of both his private and public life,” she disclosed.

Vice President International Affairs of the group, Dr. Peter Ancka noted that the aim of the organisation is to help build a new society with prosperous, sustainable and inclusive human development, one that is peaceful and regionally integrated, a nation filled with hope, opportunities, liberty and freedom with shared prosperity for all.

“The vision to embark on this is borne out of happenings in the society today where majority of the populace are living below poverty line in the midst of plenty,” she said.
