Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has stated that he has always stood by his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) after a resolution meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria.

Dogara who has been widely perceived as a party rebel said this when he spoke with newsmen after all members of the APC in the Green Chamber met with Buhari to resolve the lingering crises in the House.

“I will always be by the party. There has never been a time that I never stood firmly by the party.

“So, like my chairman has explained, we are going to do it in consultation with the party and I’m sure that sooner than later we will have good news for Nigerians,” he said.

It would be recalled that Dogara flaunted his party orders not to contest for the position of Speaker in the House of Representatives after he lost in a mock election conducted by the APC to Femi Gbajabiamila.

But he defied the party orders and contested the election, defeating Gbajabiamila to emerge the Speaker of the 8th Assembly.

In what appears to be a turning point for the APC, Dogara and Gbajabiamila have agreed to finding a lasting solution to the crises that has rocked their party.

Speaking to newsmen, Gbajabiamila expressed optimism that the dispute would be resolved by Tuesday.

He described the meeting as fruitful as all contending groups in the House of Representatives came together for the first time in a cordial atmosphere.
