Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara said it had no hand in alleged petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against Toyin Saraki, wife of President of the Senate.

The party made this known on Monday in a statement jointly signed by Chief Iyiola Oyedepo and Chief Rex Olawoye, Chairman and Publicity Secretary in the state, respectively.

It also distanced itself from a statement entitled “PDP claims responsibility for Toyin Saraki’s EFCC ordeal” allegedly credited to the party and purportedly signed by Olawoye.

It described the publication as handiwork of dubious, desperate, faceless and spineless individuals or groups who were out to “malign characters and damage their superiors in order to gain cheap popularity”.

“PDP in Kwara wants to state without mincing words that the said statement runs counter to our avowed position of establishing credible and constructive opposition to the ruling APC government in Kwara.

“We have always dwelled, discussed and criticized issues taken by the ruling government that might not give Kwara state its deserved growth and development.

“We have never discussed people and we shall never discuss people or attack individual for its own sake,” it said.

According to PDP, the said statement alluded to the fact the PDP had at one time in the year petitioned EFCC against Mrs Toyin Saraki.

“We want to put it on record that Kwara PDP has never at any time written any petition on anybody in the state as far as the party is concerned.

“We therefore emphatically state that all the statements credited to Kwara PDP are products/machinations of people who are disgruntled as well as spineless,” it added.

The party remarked that the authors of the statement had the audacity to “write frivolous articles but lacked courage to brief authentic party officials”.

It maintained that the said statement was politically motivated and emanated from persons who had issues with the President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, and his immediate family.

“PDP in Kwara wants to warn such individual or group of people who take delight in maligning others through malicious and incriminating publications to desist henceforth,” it said.
