Diaspora Nigerians contributes $21bn yearly to Nigeria’s economy

Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) said on Monday that its members contribute 21 billion dollars annually to the country’s economy.

The organisation made this known on Monday in Abuja during a news conference on the successes recorded at the just concluded NIDO worldwide leadership summit.

Prof. Hauwa Ibrahim, a member of Board of Directors, NIDO America, said the organisation was ready to key into the ‘change ‘initiative of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“As members of Nigerians in Diaspora, our spirit is strengthened every day to support the good leadership of President Buhari,” she said.

Ibrahim said that “the determination by this government to provide good governance, fight terror and economic recovery are what NIDO stands to support.”

She urged Nigerians both home and abroad to come together and build a better nation.

Dr Jonathan Obaja from Singapore representing NIDO Asia pacific said the resources of Nigerians in the Diaspora were enormous and not fully tapped.

He identified lack of transparency, bad governance foreign policy and intimidation as part of problems militating against reaping the abundant Nigeria Diaspora resources.
